商品說明

Meet me at the Sanqi Baxiang archway on Changle Road, a 3-minute walk from Wudingmen Metro Station (Line 3), Exit 3. This is the market alley where I've watched my neighbors shop for daily food since I was a kid - no souvenir stalls, no tourist menus, just dinner being bought.

We start with Nanjing-style pork soup dumplings. I'll teach you the local technique: bite a small hole, sip the soup first, then eat the rest. The soup is pork broth with natural gelatin that melts during steaming. Two to four dumplings per person - pace yourself.

Next, a warm, sweet red bean soup, simmered for hours into a thick paste with tiny rice balls. This is classic Nanjing comfort food, eaten for breakfast or dessert. A small bowl each, about three good spoonfuls.

Then smoked fish - though no smoke is involved. Fresh fish is deep-fried until crispy, then dunked in a sweet soy glaze while still sizzling. The vendor cleaver-chops every piece to order, right in front of you. One to two pieces each.

Lotus root comes next: stuffed with sticky rice, slow-boiled for six hours, drizzled with osmanthus honey. In Chinese culture the lotus root symbolizes connection - break it, and the threads still hold together. A small bowl each.

A two-minute walk takes us to the duck shop. Nanjing is the duck capital of China — locals eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and this duck is roasted over peach and pear wood for a subtle sweetness and that shiny red skin. Two to three slices with dipping sauce.

Then my favorite stop, and it's not about eating. A deaf woman runs this shop, hand-wrapping egg dumplings one by one every morning - egg skin, pork filling, pan-fried golden. She communicates entirely in smiles and gestures. Out of respect for her pace we don't eat here, but you can buy a box of raw dumplings to cook at your accommodation - I'll give you cooking instructions.

For a palate cleanser, a crunchy savory salad of ten vegetables. Every Nanjing family makes a big batch before Lunar New Year, and each vegetable carries a different blessing. Small portions, eaten with toothpicks.

We finish with two childhood snacks from a shop that's been here since my school days: a walnut cookie so crumbly it falls apart at a touch. One of each - the perfect walk-out dessert.
