What is the Korean Traditional Culture Center cooking class in Daegu?
The Korean Traditional Culture Center sits in Suseong-gu, Daegu, in a building that was remodeled and reopened in September 2019. It is a compact two-storey space rather than a large attraction: a tea and meditation room on the first floor, and a Donguibogam food experience room on the second, where traditional Korean dishes are prepared from natural ingredients using traditional methods. Suseong-gu runs the center as part of its wellness experience tourism program, and the Korea Tourism Organization has named it an outstanding wellness tourism destination. The cooking class takes place upstairs in the food experience room. It is a hands-on session, not a demonstration you watch from a seat — you prepare the dish yourself, taste what you made, and clear your station afterwards. Two menus alternate through the week: traditional Korean sweets on Friday and gimbap on Saturday, so the dish you make depends on the day you book. Sessions are guided in Korean and English and are shared with travelers from other countries, which turns the kitchen into something closer to a cultural exchange than a lesson. Vegetarian and vegan menus can be arranged on request. A Korean tea ceremony in the first-floor tea and meditation room is included at the end.
Please arrive on the 2nd floor of the Korean Traditional Culture Experience Center 10 minutes in advance. Once you enter the building, take the stairs to the right, and you will find the cooking class venue.
Experience making Korean gimbap or traditional Korean sweets using seasonal ingredients and traditional techniques.
