Yaxha was the capital of an extensive territory that dominated the northeastern part of Petén, although it had very strong ties with the city of Tikal, Caracol, in Belize, and Calakmul in Mexico. It has monumental complexes with pyramidal temples, Acropolis, twin pyramid complexes, memorial complexes, ball courts, palaces and residential complexes. The Mayan name of the city is seen in its hieroglyphic emblem (which represents the head of a parrot) and is read as Yax (green), ha (water). The urban complex was occupied for 16 centuries 600 BC – 900 AD.
The tour lasts approximately 3 hours of walking around the site, visiting very important squares, such as astronomical centers, causeways, ball courts, central acropolis, and temple 216 or temple of the red hands. From where you will have an incredible view of the entire city but also watch the sunset. After the tour we return to the vehicle and return to Flores. Important: It is a shared economic tour to take into account, it is the only option we have. If you want much better service, take our private tour.
