A Northern Lights hunt from Rovaniemi with no fixed route, free guide photos and a guarantee settled by our guides' cameras.

How the Night Is Planned
Planning starts the day before with cloud forecasts and continues on the tour day, together with space-weather data. The direction with the clearest sky decides the drive: short on a clear night, longer on a cloudy one, and across the border into Sweden on some nights. There is no kilometre limit. Your exact departure or pickup time is emailed to you by 3:00 PM on the tour day.

At the Viewing Spot
We stop where the sky is clear, the view to the north is open and there is no light pollution, and we stay for at least 1–2 hours. The heated vehicle is parked beside you, so you can warm up at any time. Hot drinks and snacks are served at the spot, and your guide follows live solar-wind data. When the aurora appears early, we often continue to a second spot the same night.

Photos
When the aurora shows, your guide photographs you under it with professional-grade cameras. The number of shots is not limited, and the photos are emailed to you free of charge within 3 days.

The Guarantee
If our guides' cameras capture no aurora during your tour, you choose: a free place on another hunt, as many times as you need, or a full refund. Any aurora that shows in the guides' photos counts as a sighting. The guarantee applies to the Group Tour and the Small-Group Tour.

Three Ways to Join
Group Tour: max 47 guests. Departure at 7:00 PM from the bus stop at Korkalonkatu 23, next to Pub Uitto, in the city centre; the tour ends at the same stop. No hotel pickup. On quieter nights the group travels in a smaller vehicle.
Small-Group Tour: max 15 guests per vehicle, in a van or a minibus. Pickup and drop-off at your accommodation within 12 km of the city centre, Apukka Resort included. Pickup is usually between 6:30 and 7:30 PM.
Private Tour: max 47 guests. The guide and the vehicle are for your group only. Pickup and drop-off at your accommodation, start time agreed with you.

Languages
Every tour is guided in English. Another language can also be chosen when booking; we then always try to arrange a guide who speaks it, but cannot guarantee one.

What to Wear
Winter clothing in layers: a winter coat and trousers, a warm hat, gloves, thick socks and winter boots. Overalls are not provided; the heated vehicle stays close by.

  • Know Before You Go: The aurora always comes out stronger in photos than to the naked eye: photos are several-second exposures and gather light the eye cannot. A quiet aurora reads pale to the eye; a strong one shows its green, often with pink or red along the top

  • Know Before You Go: The tour is always guided in English. You can also choose another language when booking; we always try to arrange a guide who speaks it, but we cannot guarantee it

  • Know Before You Go: Bring a passport or ID card: on some nights we cross into Sweden
