Discover the spectacular frozen waterfalls of Korouoma Canyon and step into one of Lapland's most dramatic winter landscapes. Towering cliffs, snowy forests and enormous walls of ice create an Arctic world that feels far removed from the busy streets of Rovaniemi.

This experience was created by Arctic Safari Guides founder Timo, who grew up in Posio—the municipality where Korouoma Canyon is located. This connection to the region brings genuine local knowledge into the experience, from stories about life in Lapland to Arctic nature, wildlife and the history of the area.

Your journey begins in Rovaniemi and continues through forests, frozen landscapes and small villages towards Korouoma Nature Reserve. The drive itself offers a glimpse into the quieter side of Finnish Lapland before you arrive at the canyon.

Follow your guide down into Korouoma and experience the landscape from within. During winter, water freezing along the steep rock walls creates enormous ice formations and spectacular frozen waterfalls. See famous waterfalls such as Ruskea Virta and Mammutti and discover why Korouoma attracts winter travelers, photographers and ice climbers from around the world.

Take time to admire the walls of ice, photograph the scenery and experience the silence of the Arctic wilderness.

⭐Korouoma Highlights – 5 hours | Most Popular
Experience the essential highlights of Korouoma on a shorter and more affordable adventure from Rovaniemi. Enjoy approximately 2 hours of hiking in the canyon and see famous frozen waterfalls including Ruskea Virta and Mammutti. Your guide can help take photos of you with your own phone or camera.

⭐ Korouoma Premium – 7 hours | Small Group
Discover Korouoma at a more relaxed pace with a maximum of 8 guests and see all the major frozen waterfalls along the main hiking route. Enjoy a longer hiking experience, hotel pickup and drop-off in Rovaniemi, and professional photography throughout the tour. During the adventure, stop at the bottom of Korouoma Canyon for a traditional Finnish BBQ lunch prepared over an open fire, surrounded by spectacular Arctic scenery. Professionally edited photos are delivered to you after the tour.

Experience Korouoma in your preferred language

Guiding in English and Finnish is available throughout the season. From October 1 until the end of March, guiding may also be available in Spanish, French, Italian, Russian, Turkish and Greek, subject to guide availability. Select your preferred language when booking.

Arctic Safari Guides operates in cooperation with Metsähallitus, the Finnish Forest Administration, and follows Leave No Trace principles to help protect this remarkable Arctic environment.
