The hike covers about 8 kilometers (around 5 hours), but we walk at a relaxed pace with many breaks to enjoy nature. During every stop, you’ll have time to rest, listen to stories about Hietasaari’s wildlife and history, and take photos of the beautiful scenery.

Along the way, you will:
❄️ Walk across the frozen sea and through snowy forests
Observe winter birds and animal tracks
Get photography tips and professional photos taken of you during the trip
Enjoy a cozy bonfire break with warm snacks

Why Hietasaari?
Hietasaari is a true natural treasure in the heart of Oulu. The area is home to over 100 bird species and many mammals. Forests, seashores, and fascinating local history combine to create a unique and unforgettable atmosphere — there’s always something new to discover.
