Giới thiệu sản phẩm

Most visitors assume the French Quarter is French. Two catastrophic fires, in 1788 and 1794, burned the original colony to the ground. What replaced it was Spanish: stucco walls, iron balconies, and courtyards hidden behind carriage gates. On this two-hour walking tour, a local guide unpacks 300 years of building history in a group of no more than 14.

Your route winds past St. Louis Cathedral and the Presbytere on Jackson Square, then through the quiet blocks where the oldest residential buildings in the Quarter still stand. You'll stop at the Pontalba Apartments, the oldest continuously rented apartments in North America. You'll see the Ursuline Convent, the only surviving building from the French colonial period. And you'll pause at Napoleon House, where a plot to rescue the exiled emperor gave a corner bar its name.

Along the way, your guide teaches you to read the buildings themselves. You'll learn to spot the four distinct types of Creole townhouses that line Royal and Chartres streets. You'll understand why Shotgun Houses have no hallways and why Creole Cottages sit flush with the sidewalk. The styles covered span French Colonial, Spanish Colonial, Greek Revival, Italianate, and Creole, each one explained in plain terms with the building right in front of you.

Some blocks here feel European. Others feel Caribbean. Benjamin Latrobe, the Father of American Architecture, praised the Creole building style for keeping houses cool and pedestrians shaded. After this tour, you'll see exactly what he meant.

Two hours. Fourteen people maximum. One neighborhood you'll read differently from now on.
