ข้อมูลสินค้า

Welcome to Altötting, the Bavarian sanctuary that has stood as a center of faith for over twelve centuries. Located in southeastern Bavaria, the town is rooted in Christian tradition and pilgrimage. Since the 8th century, Altötting has held religious significance, but it was a reported miracle in 1489—when a young boy was said to have been brought back to life through the intercession of the Virgin Mary—that established it as a pilgrimage destination. Altötting became known as the “Lourdes of Germany,” drawing believers and visitors, including Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI, the latter having a connection to the town as a native Bavarian who celebrated masses here as Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger.

At the center of Altötting’s religious legacy lies the Chapel of Grace (Gnadenkapelle), an octagonal chapel that may date back to around 700 AD. It houses the Black Madonna, a statue of the Virgin Mary, and serves as the focus for processions. The chapel walls display votive offerings, showing centuries of prayers and expressions of thanks. It also contains the silver urns with the hearts of Bavarian rulers from the House of Wittelsbach, marking their connection to the site. Visit Altötting to learn about a place that has shaped Christian practice in Bavaria and beyond.
