  • COEDA HOUSE
  • Business hours: 9:00-16:00 (last order)

COEDA HOUSE is a fully glass-walled cafe designed by leading Japanese architect Kengo Kuma. Kengo Kuma's idea was to "combine small branches to create a building that resembles a large tree," and he used glass for the exterior and adopted a design that blends into the rose garden with furniture made of mirrors. This concept allowed the rose garden and architecture to meet, creating a space that resonates with nature.

The name COEDA HOUSE comes from the "CO" meaning "to call" and the image of a large tree with small branches (EDA). "COEDA" also has the meaning of "people gathering together." This building uses the "expanding resin anchor method," which secures rebar to the wood with resin, providing strength. Its unique feature is that it is invisible.

Furthermore, to support the structure of COEDA HOUSE, 49 layers of 800-year-old Alaskan cypress are stacked, and the pillars are made from 1,500 pieces of wood. By stacking small pieces of wood, some as short as 80cm and some as long as 12m, it appears as if they are one giant tree. The flooring is made of African zelkova, allowing you to enjoy the warmth and fragrance of solid wood.
