商品説明
In 1978, the Old Town of Kraków became one of the first twelve sites in the world to be inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The committee's reasoning was simple: almost nothing had been destroyed. While other European capitals lay in rubble after the Second World War, Kraków survived nearly intact. What you walk through today is what has always been there. This 2.5-hour walking tour follows the Royal Route — the ceremonial path Polish kings took through the city for over four centuries, from the northern gate all the way to Wawel Hill. Kilometre for kilometre, one of the most historically rich walks in Central Europe.
THE STARTING POINT: MATEJKO SQUARE Unlike most Old Town tours that begin at the Barbican, this one starts at Matejko Square and the Grunwald Monument — approaching the Old Town the way visitors once did: from the outside in. Your first stop is St. Florian's Church, founded in the late 12th century and housing the relics of St. Florian, patron saint of firefighters and a city that has survived fires, invasions, and centuries of history.
THROUGH THE GATE AND DOWN FLORIAŃSKA STREET Through Florian's Gate — the last of eight medieval city gates — and past the Barbican, you enter the Old Town. Floriańska Street ahead carried the coronation and funeral processions of Polish monarchs for centuries.
THE MAIN MARKET SQUARE Europe's largest medieval market square has been the heart of the city since the 13th century. The Cloth Hall (Sukiennice) once sat at the centre of amber and spice routes linking northern and southern Europe. St. Mary's Basilica's hourly trumpet signal — the hejnał — has been played without interruption since the Middle Ages. The Town Hall Tower is the only remnant of a full town hall demolished in the 19th century.
GRODZKA, KANONICZA & WAWEL The route continues along Grodzka Street past the Baroque facade of the Church of Sts. Peter and Paul and the compact Romanesque St. Andrew's Church, which withstood Tatar raids when nothing else did. Then along Kanonicza Street — one of Poland's best-preserved aristocratic streets — to the foot of Wawel Hill, where the tour ends and your next exploration begins.
Available: Tue/Thu/Sat at 9:00 AM · Wed at 7:00 PM Duration: approximately 2.5 hours Meeting point: Matejko Square, Grunwald Monument
