GB SHORT DESCRIPTION – Experience the real face of Nowa Huta aboard an authentic SKOT OT-64 armored vehicle from nineteen seventy-one. Discover how Poland’s first socialist city became one of Solidarity’s strongest strongholds in the country. In nineteen eighty the steelworks created one of the largest factory-level Solidarity organizations in Poland. After martial law was imposed on the night of twelve to thirteen December nineteen eighty-one steelworkers launched an occupation strike. The strike was brutally crushed on the night of fifteen to sixteen December by ZOMO riot police Citizens Militia and Polish People’s Army units using T-fifty-four tanks and armored personnel carriers. Similar scenes repeated in nineteen eighty-eight when another major strike was pacified by ZOMO on the night of four to five May. During this thirty to forty minute mobile historical presentation every participant is required to wear an authentic PRL-era crew helmet. The vehicle is registered as a historic special vehicle without seat belts or modern homologation. Participants consciously accept the risks and sign a declaration before the ride. Valid OC and NW insurance covers every participant of this living history experience in Kraków.
