The original Enamel Factory, also known as Oskar Schindler's Deutsche Emailwarenfabrik, dates back to 1937 when it was established. When Nazi Germany invaded Poland on September 1, 1939, it is believed that Oskar Schindler, a Sudeten German, arrived in Krakow on September 6 when German troops entered the city and soon took control over the factory where he employed over a thousand Jewish people from the Krakow ghetto.
