Belgium has been brewing the world's finest beers since the 12th century — over 1,000 varieties in all — and its beer culture is so remarkable that UNESCO added it to the intangible cultural heritage of humanity in 2016. On this 2.5-hour tour you'll go beyond simply drinking, and come to understand what makes Belgian beer so special.
Your evening begins at Scotts Bar, opened in 2012 to blend traditional Belgian beer culture with a modern outlook. Its list runs from the most authentic abbey styles to groundbreaking local craft, and the kitchen serves food too if you'd like to eat along the way. Here you'll taste a world-famous Trappist ale while your guide tells its story — one of war, charity, service, and monks who brew some of the greatest beers on earth.
From there we walk to the Toone Theatre, a UNESCO-protected building treasured for keeping alive the Brussels tradition of marionette theatre, and home to one of the oldest and most characterful bars in the city. Settling in, you'll enjoy a selection of three beers chosen expertly by your guide, along with more stories of how these beers are made, what sets them apart, and why Belgian beer is so famously strong.
To round things off, you're welcome to join an optional visit to the legendary Delirium Café — holder of the Guinness World Record for the largest selection of beers on the planet. Having discovered your tastes on the tour, you can explore its village of seven themed bars, open into the early hours.
Led by a knowledgeable local guide, it's a convivial and genuinely eye-opening introduction to the world's greatest beer nation.
