We'll meet at Brussels Central Station to take the train to Mechelen. In just 25 minutes, we'll be in this Flemish gem!
️ We'll begin a walking tour through the historic center, starting at the Grote Markt, the heart of the city. Here, the imposing Mechelen City Hall awaits us, along with a curious sculpture of the most powerful man in Europe in the 16th century: Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor and King of Spain. Did you know that he was born in Ghent in 1500?
⛪ From the square, we'll admire the huge bell tower of St. Rumold's Cathedral, which is 98 meters high... although unfinished. We'll find out why! We'll continue our tour of the city, passing by iconic buildings such as the Palace of Margaret of Austria, one of the most influential and cultured women of her time.
During the walk, we'll see the legendary Van Busleyden Palace, the Dyle River Canal, and the exterior of Het Anker, Mechelen's famous brewery. Before setting off, you'll have 45 minutes free to have lunch on your own.
With renewed energy, we'll take the train to Leuven, a city full of life and tradition. We'll stroll through its beautiful historic center to admire the University of Leuven, one of the oldest in Europe, and the spectacular façade of its City Hall, full of figures that hide stories and secrets.
✨ After the visit, we will return by train to Brussels, wrapping up a perfect day discovering two of Belgium's most enchanting cities.
