Discover the rich tapestry of Northumberland's turbulent history on a full-day private tour that winds through the region's magnificent castles. The adventure begins in Dunbar, a historic coastal town where the formidable remnants of Dunbar Castle rise against the North Sea, narrating tales of medieval power struggles and battles. From here, the journey takes a spiritual turn as we make our way to Holy Island, also known as Lindisfarne, where the haunting ruins of Lindisfarne Castle and the revered Lindisfarne Priory stand as poignant symbols of the island's Christian heritage and its vulnerability to Viking invasions.
Continuing our odyssey, the tour reaches the iconic Bamburgh Castle, a majestic fortress perched atop a rocky outcrop overlooking the Northumberland coastline. Grand courtyards, regal halls, and breathtaking views unfold within the castle walls, offering a glimpse into centuries of history and strategic significance. Next, the enchanting Alnwick Castle (open April-October only) beckons with its seamless blend of medieval architecture, splendid gardens, and a touch of cinematic magic, as the castle served as a filming location for scenes in the Harry Potter series.
Our final destination is Galashiels, a market town in the heart of the Scottish Borders. While Galashiels Castle may no longer stand, the town retains echoes of its medieval past amidst the vibrant landscapes of the region. This full-day private tour promises an immersive exploration of Northumberland's castles, each revealing a chapter of history and contributing to the fascinating narrative of this culturally rich and visually stunning region.
Note: Alnwick Castle is closed during the winter months and is not accessible.
