The best time to visit Apulia depends on your priorities, but generally, late spring (May-June) and early autumn (September-October) offer the ideal balance of pleasant weather, fewer crowds, and lower prices than the peak summer months. Summer (June-August) is perfect for beach lovers, while winter is best for a quiet, cultural experience, though some attractions may be closed, and the weather can be chilly. For pleasant weather and fewer crowds, late spring and early autumn provide warm, sunny days without the oppressive heat of mid-summer, ideal for exploring and the start of good beach weather. Warm temperatures persist into October, but crowds dwindle, and the sea is still warm enough for swimming in September. October is also a great time for the grape and olive harvests.

You absolutely need at least 7 days for a visit to Apulia. With a full week, you can quickly see Bari, spend a night in Matera, explore the Valle d'Itria for a few days, and then see the highlights of Lecce and the Salento coast. That said, this is a large region and the ideal amount of time for a visit is 10-14 days.

There's no single 'best' town in Apulia, as it depends on your priorities. Ostuni is excellent for exploring whitewashed hilltop towns. Lecce is ideal for Baroque architecture. Alberobello is famous for its unique Trulli houses. Monopoli offers a charming seaside experience and is a good base for the Valle d'Itria. For a mix of coastal beauty and easy access to the northern inland areas, Monopoli is a strong choice, while Lecce is perfect for a Southern Apulia exploration.

Apulia boasts several iconic towns. Ostuni, known as the 'White City,' offers stunning panoramic views of the sea and is a perfect base for exploring the Valle d'Itria region. Locorotondo is a visually striking, circular hilltop town in the Valle d'Itria, celebrated as one of Italy's most beautiful small towns. Cisternino is another picturesque town in the Valle d'Itria, offering beautiful architecture, food, and stunning views. Alberobello is world-famous for its historic 'Trulli' houses, traditional dry-stone buildings with conical roofs, making it a unique and memorable place to visit.
