The High Speed Rail (Hong Kong Section) is 26km long, starting from West Kowloon and connecting to the national high-speed rail network. It connects Hong Kong to 73 stations in the Mainland. You can choose short-haul trains to Shenzhen, Dongguan, and Guangzhou, or take long-haul trains to reach further destinations such as Chaoshan, Xiamen, Shanghai, and Beijing. If you transfer to other high-speed trains along the way, you can reach even more destinations across the national network. Whether for business or leisure, the high-speed rail offers a comfortable and reliable journey, allowing you to explore further with a brand-new way of travel!

The MTR 'Vibrant Express' and Mainland trains provide the 'Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong' high-speed rail service, while long-haul services are fully operated by Mainland railway authorities. The MTR 'Vibrant Express' trains are designed for comfort, featuring Business, Special, First, and Second Class carriages. They also offer thoughtful amenities such as adjustable seat backs and free charging, making your journey more comfortable.


- Instructions -

Passengers do not need to collect physical tickets; simply proceed to the gate and present the valid identification document used for registration. Children must be accompanied by an adult passenger and go through the real-name identity verification process via the assisted channel.


- Boarding Process -

Departing from Hong Kong (from Hong Kong West Kowloon Station):

  1. Please proceed directly to the ticketing concourse on Level B1 and use your valid identification document for real-name verification and ticket checking at the self-service gates or staff-assisted counters.
  2. Before boarding, please follow the instructions for luggage and security checks, then proceed to the Departure Concourse on Level B3 to complete immigration procedures.
  3. After arriving at Level B3, please proceed to the ticket gate for your train and use your valid identification document to enter. The ticket gates will open 15 minutes before departure and close 5 minutes before departure.
  4. Upon arriving at the Mainland station, please use your valid identification document to exit the gate.


Arriving in Hong Kong (from a Mainland station):

  1. Passengers should use their valid identification document to complete real-name verification and ticket checking via self-service gates or staff-assisted channels.
  2. When heading to the ticket gate for your train, please use your valid identification document to enter and board.
  3. Upon arriving at West Kowloon Station, please disembark at the platform on Level B4 and follow the signs to the Arrival Concourse on Level B2. At the Arrival Concourse, please complete immigration procedures and use your valid identification document to exit.


- Important Information -

  • When booking, you must provide the passenger's Chinese and English name as shown on their travel document, nationality, and ID or passport number.
  • Children under 6 years old can travel for free. Passengers aged 6 or above but under 14 are eligible for child tickets; age is calculated based on the date of travel. Child tickets must be purchased together with the accompanying adult's ticket. Passengers should occupy the seat assigned to them.
  • Each passenger aged 18 or above may be accompanied by one child under 6 years old who does not occupy a separate seat for free. The child's valid identification document must be provided at the time of booking. Additional accompanying children must purchase child tickets. Children traveling for free who occupy a separate seat must also purchase a child ticket.
  • Tickets are only valid for the specified date, train number, and carriage class. If a passenger gets off at an intermediate station or does not complete the entire journey, they cannot use the same ticket to continue the remaining journey.
  • Passengers must bring valid travel documents to complete immigration procedures. The Level B3 ticket gate will close 5 minutes before departure.
  • Passengers must present the original identification document that complies with the 'Rules for the Organization of Cross-Boundary Passenger Transport on the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High Speed Rail' to enter the station and board (including: Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents (Home Return Permit) / Resident Identity Card of the People's Republic of China / Residence Permit for Hong Kong and Macao Residents of the People's Republic of China / Residence Permit for Taiwan Residents of the People's Republic of China / Foreign Permanent Resident ID Card of the People's Republic of China / Exit-Entry Permit for Travelling to and from Hong Kong and Macao for Mainland Residents / Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan Residents (Tai-Bao-Zheng) / Valid passport accepted under the regulations of the People's Republic of China).
  • Passengers traveling without a valid ticket will be handled according to relevant regulations.
  • Adults holding a child ticket will be treated as traveling without a ticket.
  • Except for cases where service is affected or with the consent of train crew to pay the fare difference, passengers may not disembark at a station beyond the destination specified on their ticket.
  • Passengers who are deemed unsuitable for travel by relevant laws, considered a threat to public health and safety by railway transport enterprises, violate relevant laws, disrupt public order at stations or on trains, harass others, or travel in violation of rules and refuse to pay the fare difference may be refused boarding.
  • The high-speed rail system requires every passenger to undergo real-name verification before a ticket can be issued. Please ensure you carry the original or a copy of the identification document used for booking (Mainland residents: ID card / Hong Kong and Macao residents: Home Return Permit / Taiwan residents: Tai-Bao-Zheng / Passengers from other countries: Passport) to perform system real-name verification at the station. Tickets can only be issued through KKday after verification. If ticket issuance fails due to lack of real-name verification, customer service will notify the passenger separately.

Q1: Can high-speed rail tickets booked through the KKday platform be refunded or changed?

A1: If you need to apply for a refund or change, please visit a Mainland railway station or Hong Kong West Kowloon Station in person to inquire.

Q2: Can the passenger's name be changed after booking?

A2: Names and identification document numbers cannot be changed after booking.

Q3: Can I choose my seat when purchasing a ticket?

A3: Seats are automatically assigned by the ticketing system, so you cannot choose your seat yourself.

Q4: Can I check in luggage with this ticket?

A4: The high-speed rail does not provide luggage or parcel check-in services.

Q5: Are there any restrictions on luggage for passengers?

A5: The maximum weight of items each passenger can carry (excluding wheelchairs for disabled passengers) is: 20kg for adults; 10kg for children (including children traveling for free); 35kg for diplomatic personnel. The sum of the length, width, and height of each piece of luggage must not exceed 130cm. Please note that passengers are not allowed to bring flammable liquids into the carriage, including hand sanitizers or sprays containing ethanol (alcohol). If necessary, please use alcohol-based disinfectant wipes instead.

Q6: How can I obtain a reimbursement voucher (receipt)?

A6: Passengers can collect reimbursement vouchers at the ticketing counters and ticket machines at Hong Kong West Kowloon Station before departure or within 180 days from the date of travel. 

Q7: Can I get off at an intermediate station?

A7: Yes. Passengers can get off early at an intermediate station on their train route, but they will not be able to use the same ticket to continue the remaining journey, and the fare difference will not be refunded.
