Choose a Northern Lights experience built around professional portrait photography, rather than a quick souvenir photo taken along the way. This shared tour is limited to 8 guests so every paying guest receives a dedicated turn in front of the camera.
After pickup in Rovaniemi, your photographer-guide reviews cloud cover, local weather, road conditions, and aurora activity. The route changes from night to night as the group travels away from city lights in search of a safe location with the clearest available sky.
At the selected location, the photographer prepares a professional camera, tripod, and portable off-camera lighting. The lighting is used to keep faces, clothing, and natural skin tones visible while the camera records the Arctic night sky. You receive simple posing direction and time for individual portraits, as well as couple, family, or travel-party compositions. This is a structured portrait session, not only documentary snapshots of the group.
If you bring your own camera and tripod, the photographer can also help you choose practical settings for photographing the Northern Lights. Prefer to use your phone? The photographer carries a shared MagSafe-compatible magnetic phone mount and can show guests with compatible phones how to stabilize the device and film the northern lights with your own cellphone.
When the Northern Lights are visible, the photographer balances the portrait lighting with the aurora and surrounding winter landscape. When the aurora is faint, long-exposure photography may record more detail than the naked eye. The aurora is never digitally added to an image when it was not present. If the lights do not appear, the photographer still creates professional Arctic night portraits that honestly reflect the conditions of the evening.
After the tour, selected photographs are individually adjusted for exposure, color, contrast, and composition. The finished high-resolution JPEG images are delivered digitally within 24 hours, suitable for sharing and personal printing.
The experience also includes a physical Aurora Souvenir Set for every paying guest. It contains an exclusive personalized Aurora Sighting Certificate and a tour-exclusive magnetic Lapland souvenir designed for this activity. These items are included in the booking price and are not optional upsells.
The Northern Light is a natural phenomenon and cannot be guaranteed. The value of this experience comes from the complete photography-led evening: the mobile aurora search, a dedicated professional portrait session, carefully edited images, and two physical souvenirs created just for our guests.
To improve the chance of seeing the Northern Lights, we may travel a considerable distance from Rovaniemi when clearer skies are found farther away, therefore the total duration is not fixed. You may return to the original pickup area between 2 and 8 hours after departure.
