### Day 1: Athens to Kalambaka
Begin your journey with a morning pickup from your Athens hotel. Head north through the plains of Thessaly, stopping at Thermopylae for a brief historical moment. Continue to Trikala for a light lunch and a stroll through Varousi, the old Ottoman quarter.
Arrive in Kalambaka in the mid-afternoon and check in to your hotel. In the late afternoon, drive the Meteora scenic loop and stop at a quiet viewpoint as the light turns the rocks gold. Enjoy a welcome dinner at a family taverna, with local wine included.
### Day 2: The Meteora Day
After breakfast, set off early to beat the tour buses. A licensed Meteora guide joins you to visit three of the six active monasteries, chosen for their variety: the scale of the Great Meteoron, the frescoes of Varlaam, and the quiet beauty of Roussanou.
Return to Kalambaka for lunch with a view of the rocks. Spend the afternoon swimming, resting, or join an optional Hidden Meteora walk to the Byzantine hermitages few visitors ever see.
### Day 3: A Taste of Pindos, Anthochori, and Metsovo
Drive west into the mountains of Epirus. Stop in Anthochori, a small stone village of two hundred souls, where you walk to the old aqueduct and take coffee in the square. From there, continue to Metsovo, Greece's alpine soul, famous for its cheeses, smoked meats, and woodwork.
Wander the cobbled lanes, taste the Metsovone cheese at its source, and shop for Katogi wines before a long lunch of kontosouvli and saganaki. Return to Kalambaka by early evening.
### Day 4: Elati, Pertouli, and Back to Athens
After breakfast and check out, cross into the southern Pindos range to Elati and Pertouli, twin mountain villages set among Greece's largest fir forest. Take a gentle two-hour walk through the forest, or in winter, visit the Pertouli snow park for sledging and hot tea.
Enjoy a farewell lunch of wild boar and forest mushrooms at a traditional taverna in Pertouli, then take the long, beautiful drive south, arriving in Athens by early evening.
