The Hokkaido 5-day grand tour encompasses a journey through stunning natural beauty. You'll explore the mysterious Biei Blue Pond, the vast scenic landscapes of Furano and Biei, and the wild beauty of Shiretoko and Kushiro Wetlands. The itinerary also includes visits to Lake Shikaribetsu, opportunities to savor Hokkaido's renowned local gourmet, and relaxing stays in comfortable hot spring hotels for three nights.
The optimal time to experience the vibrant scenic landscapes of Furano, Biei, and the mystical Biei Blue Pond is generally during the summer months, particularly from June through July. During this period, the flowers in Furano and Biei are in full bloom, creating colorful patchwork fields, and the Biei Blue Pond exhibits its most vivid hues, offering spectacular photographic opportunities.
At Biei Blue Pond, the striking azure water with submerged trees creates an otherworldly scene, perfect for unique photography. In Furano and Biei, capture the iconic rolling hills with vibrant flower fields, particularly lavender in summer, and the picturesque patchwork farms. Shiretoko offers dramatic coastal cliffs, waterfalls, and chances to photograph diverse wildlife in its pristine natural environment.
Shiretoko, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is renowned for its untouched wilderness, dramatic coastlines, and diverse wildlife, including brown bears and eagles. Visitors can experience boat cruises to admire its rugged cliffs and waterfalls. The Kushiro Wetlands offer Japan's largest marshland, a crucial habitat for various migratory birds, including the Japanese crane. Observation decks provide panoramic views of this unique ecosystem.
For a 5-day tour of Hokkaido's diverse landscapes and hot springs, essential packing includes comfortable walking shoes suitable for exploring nature sites. Layered clothing is advisable, as temperatures can vary. Don't forget swimwear for enjoying the hot spring hotels, and a camera to capture the stunning scenery. A light rain jacket or umbrella is also recommended, especially during warmer months.
While self-driving offers flexibility, it is not necessary to visit remote areas like Shiretoko and Kushiro Wetlands. Organized tours, such as a 5-day grand tour, provide comfortable transportation, eliminating the complexities of navigating unfamiliar roads and accessing remote locations. This allows travelers to relax and fully enjoy the scenic beauty without the stress of driving.
The Hokkaido grand tour includes three nights of accommodation in comfortable hot spring hotels, specifically from the second to the fourth night. These stays offer an opportunity to relax and rejuvenate after days of sightseeing. The tour also focuses on enjoying Hokkaido's acclaimed local gourmet cuisine, ensuring participants experience diverse and delicious regional specialties throughout their journey.
While specific stop durations can vary based on the tour schedule and conditions, the Hokkaido grand tour is designed to efficiently cover popular spots. Sufficient time is allocated at key attractions like Biei Blue Pond and the various flower fields in Furano to allow for enjoyment, exploration, and ample photo opportunities. The itinerary balances sightseeing with comfortable travel between locations.
