Product Info

Waving Script - Bizhentu introduces brainwave data as a new calligraphic medium, extending the spirit of Chinese calligraphy into the realms of technology and dance. The work draws inspiration from the classic Chinese calligraphy essay Bizhentu (Diagram of the Battle Array of Brushstrokes), traditionally attributed to the Eastern Jin dynasty female calligrapher Lady Wei (Wei Shuo). With Lady Wei's original calligraphy works lost to history, the Waving Script - Bizhentu takes this absence as its point of departure, using media art to reinterpret this empty part and resurrect the brush techniques within a contemporary context.

The exhibition and performance unfold across three parts: from the fusion of brainwaves and calligraphy, to the extension of mechanical exploration in Waving Script, and eventually to the reinterpretation of Bizhentu through contemporary Cantonese Opera water-sleeve dance.
