Priority entry to the bamboo lantern and light art event “Lux Night KUMAMOTO 2025”
“Lux Night KUMAMOTO 2025” invites you on an immersive night walk illuminated by bamboo lanterns, light, and sound, themed around “The Enlightenment of Miyamoto Musashi and the Hosokawa Culture.”
Enjoy priority entry before the park opens!
Miyamoto Musashi was invited to Kumamoto by Hosokawa Tadatoshi, the feudal lord of Higo, and spent the last five years of his life there. During that time, he wrote his famous works “The Book of Five Rings” and “Dokkōdō.” Musashi also left remarkable contributions in painting and craftsmanship, greatly influencing the Hosokawa culture.
Set in Suizenji Jojuen Garden, which has deep ties to the Hosokawa family, and in areas associated with Musashi himself, this event lets you experience the magical harmony of bamboo lights and artistic illumination.
The event will proceed in case of rain, but may be canceled in severe weather conditions.
Visit Reigando Cave, a historic site associated with Miyamoto Musashi
The theme of “Lux Night KUMAMOTO 2025” is inspired by Miyamoto Musashi, who spent the last five years of his life in Kumamoto and wrote his legendary martial arts text, “The Book of Five Rings,” while secluding himself in this very cave.
It is said that Musashi passed away just one week after completing the manuscript, and the surrounding area still carries a solemn and dignified atmosphere that reflects his final days.
Enjoy Kumamoto’s specialty Higo Akaushi beef with a hearty Akaushi Beef Bento
