- The Mimigawa River in winter offers scenery that can only be seen during this season. When Lake Utonai downstream freezes over, whooper swans gather on the Mimigawa River. On cold, clear mornings, 'frost flowers'—frost crystals that bloom like flowers on the river ice—can be seen. You will paddle your own canoe through this breathtaking landscape. Located about 10 minutes by car from New Chitose Airport. With free shuttle service available, you can participate without having to drive on winter roads in a rental car. (Meeting directly at the site by car is also possible.) The Mimigawa River is shallow, with a depth of about 50cm, and the current is very gentle. Your guide will teach you how to paddle at the start, so even first-timers can feel at ease. The guide will be nearby in a separate canoe to support you and take photos with a DSLR camera. These photos will be provided to you for free as digital data if you wish. - When winter arrives and Lake Utonai downstream freezes, whooper swans come to the Mimigawa River. From your canoe, you can leisurely watch the swans swimming. If you are lucky, you might even encounter Steller's sea eagles or white-tailed eagles soaring in the sky. On cold, clear mornings, you may be able to see 'frost flowers.' These are frost crystals that spread like flowers on the river ice, a sight only visible on winter mornings. They disappear as the sun rises, so we recommend the morning tour if you want to see them. As soon as you start and pass under the bridge, scenery that can only be reached by canoe spreads out before your eyes. Along the way, you can enjoy hot tea and snacks on the canoe. Hot tea in the cold air is truly exceptional.

The guide holds a Hokkaido Governor-certified Outdoor Master Guide qualification, as well as rescue and first aid certifications.
