【Festival Introduction】

  • The Ice Nara Hwacheon Sancheoneo Ice Festival is a unique winter event that was named one of the 'Seven Winter Wonders' by CNN in 2011. It is held in the Hwacheon region of Gangwon-do, where the thickest ice forms the fastest in Korea. Since its inception in 2003, it has attracted millions of visitors, with numbers growing every year. In addition to ice fishing for mountain trout, the festival offers various winter activities such as sledding and ice cars that zip across the snow and ice. The ice fishing experience features 12,000 fishing holes. Hwacheon's river is 2m deep with crystal-clear water, allowing you to see the fish swimming freely beneath the ice. To ensure every visitor has a successful catch, 1~2 tons of mountain trout are added daily during the festival, making it a perfect experience for families and friends.
