FAQ

1. What are the main transportation methods to reach Green Island from Taiwan?

To reach Green Island, visitors primarily take a ferry or a domestic flight. Ferries depart from Fugang Fishery Harbor in Taitung, taking about 50 minutes. Alternatively, flights are available from Taitung Airport to Green Island Airport, with a flight duration of approximately 15-20 minutes. Both options provide access to the island's unique charm and diving experiences.

2. What are the common local transportation options available for exploring Green Island?

The most popular ways to get around Green Island are by renting a scooter or an electric bicycle. These offer flexibility to explore the island's scenic loop road and various attractions at your own pace, including diving centers. Bicycle rentals are also available for those who prefer a more leisurely pace. Some guesthouses may also offer shuttle services.

3. Are taxis readily available as a local transportation option on Green Island?

Taxis are not a primary or widely available mode of transportation on Green Island. The island is small, and most visitors rely on rented scooters, electric bicycles, or bicycles for local travel. It's advisable to arrange transportation through your accommodation or plan for scooter rental upon arrival at Nanliao Harbor.

4. Is renting a scooter or bicycle a recommended way to get around Green Island?

Yes, renting a scooter or an electric bicycle is highly recommended for exploring Green Island. The island has a well-maintained scenic loop road, making it easy and enjoyable to navigate. It allows visitors to freely visit diving centers like Huoshao Island Diving Center, hot springs, and other attractions. Ensure you have an international driving permit if renting a scooter.

5. What is the ferry schedule and duration for traveling to Green Island?

Ferries to Green Island depart from Fugang Fishery Harbor in Taitung. The journey typically takes about 50 minutes to Nanliao Harbor. Ferry schedules can vary seasonally and are often adjusted based on weather conditions. It's highly recommended to check the latest schedules and book tickets in advance, especially during peak travel seasons, to secure your desired travel time.

6. Are there direct flights to Green Island, and what are the flight options?

Yes, there are direct domestic flights to Green Island (Lyudao Airport, GNI) from Taitung Airport (TTT). The flights are operated by small airlines and typically take around 15-20 minutes. Due to limited capacity, flight tickets are often booked quickly, especially during holidays and weekends. It's advisable to book well in advance for convenient access to Green Island.

8. Can visitors drive their own vehicles or rental cars on Green Island?

Bringing private cars or rental cars to Green Island is generally not recommended or common. The island's narrow roads are better suited for scooters and bicycles, which are the preferred local transportation. Ferries from Taitung primarily transport passengers, not vehicles. For car transport, special arrangements would be needed, which are rare and often impractical.
