Nara Park - one of the top 100 famous cherry blossom spots in Japan
- Famous for the approximately 1,300 wild Japanese deer that live in the park, one of the most popular tourist destinations in Japan.
- The vast area of 511 hectares is mostly mountainous and forested, but there are about 1,700 cherry blossom trees planted on the flat ground alone.
Hongo no Takizakura (Matabee Cherry Tree)
- The weeping cherry tree is said to be 300 years old
- Gotou Matabee, a samurai during the summer campaign for the siege of Osaka in 1615, is believed to have died here, hence it being fondly called “Matabee Cherry Tree” by the locals.
- The contrast in colors between the cherry blossoms and the peach blossoms behind is so beautiful that lots of visitors come every year during peak blooming season to enjoy the scene.
