Kawazu Sakura is a distinct cherry blossom variety known for its vibrant, deep pink petals and an unusually long blooming period, which can last for up to a month. Unlike many other cherry blossoms that bloom briefly, Kawazu Sakura offers an extended viewing experience. Its larger petals and earlier blooming season, typically from early February to early March, also set it apart.
The Kawazu Sakura typically begins to bloom in early February, with the peak viewing period often occurring from mid-February to late February. The blossoms can last until early March, making it one of Japan's earliest and longest-lasting cherry blossom varieties. Visiting during this window ensures you can enjoy the full spectacle of the vibrant pink flowers.
Within Kawazu Town, the primary viewing spot for Kawazu Sakura is along the Kawazu River. Here, a stunning 3-kilometer cherry blossom avenue is lined with thousands of trees, creating a breathtaking pink tunnel. Other popular spots include the Kawazu Bagatelle Park, which features beautiful flower gardens, and various foot baths near the river for a relaxing viewing experience.
While Kawazu Town is the epicenter for Kawazu Sakura, the wider Izu region offers additional scenic viewing spots. Many areas along the Izu Peninsula coastline provide picturesque backdrops where the cherry blossoms beautifully contrast with the ocean. Smaller towns and parks throughout Izu also feature Kawazu Sakura, often complemented by fields of bright yellow canola flowers, enhancing the visual appeal.
Kawazu Sakura stands out from varieties like Somei Yoshino primarily due to its earlier bloom time, deeper pink color, and significantly longer blooming period. Most other cherry blossoms bloom for about a week, but Kawazu Sakura's blossoms can last for nearly a month. Its robust, vibrant pink petals are also more prominent compared to the paler, more delicate hues of many common types.
From Izu Panoramic Park's Azu Terrace, visitors are treated to magnificent panoramic views. On clear days, you can witness the majestic Mount Fuji in the distance, alongside the expansive, sparkling waters of Suruga Bay. The terrace offers a sweeping perspective of the Izu Peninsula's verdant landscapes, providing numerous photo opportunities of the region's natural beauty.
The all-you-can-eat strawberry activity provides a delightful 30-minute opportunity to pick and savor fresh, ripe strawberries directly from a local farm. This hands-on experience allows visitors to enjoy the natural sweetness and vibrant flavors of seasonal strawberries at their freshest, offering a memorable and tasty highlight to the tour.
During the Kawazu Sakura festival, visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll along an impressive 3-kilometer cherry blossom avenue. This picturesque path, densely lined with thousands of Kawazu Sakura trees, offers ample space for walking and photography. The extensive length ensures a comprehensive and immersive experience of the beautiful early-blooming cherry blossoms.
