Special plan for a limited time only! Do not miss out the chance to deeply learn about the Japanese paper, "Washi".
WASHI (Japanese paper)
Do you know what the Japanese-yen note is made from? Washi is the material of it. Even if you accidentally washed your pants with the note in the pocket, it surely remains as it is, and then you see how strong it is.
Anyway, washi is used for many things around you for a long long time.
Mino Old Town
The town was registered as a National Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings and as said above, houses which have udatsu are all around in the town. All udatsu are different in designs so look carefully at them.
Imai Family House
This house has such a very simple style. You walk into the back of the house and you see a beautiful garden through the window there. The garden has "Suikinkutsu", into which you pour a little of water and gives you a cool and refreshing sound.
Mino Washi Akari Art Museum
At night in autumn at Mino Old Town, there is a event "Mino Washi Akari Art Exhibit". The museum reproduces the event displaying works that exhibited in the past event. A fantastic view spreads out there.
Craftsman's work watching
This experience is also exclusive to this tour! Witness the precision and splendor of washi paper as you observe the skilled techniques of washi craftsmen up close.
Mino Washi-no-sato Hall
The hall tells you about the history and technic of Mino Washi, giving you exhibits and experience of it, and the best place to start this tour. Especially, experience of making washi is great chance to deeply learn what washi is.
Mino Washi Akari Art Exhibition
The "Mino Washi Akari Art Exhibition" is a fantastic exhibition in which approximately 400 light art works using Mino Washi illuminate with soft light the "udatsu-lined streets" that traces of the Edo Period, about 400 years ago. Beautifully lightworks in this historic streetscape make us feel the softness and beauty of Mino Washi.
Oyada Jinja Shrine
The Oyada Shrine in Mino City has 3,000 mountain maples that turn red, creating a fantastic sight.
This tour will make a short stop at the shrinem so be sure to take some wonderful pictures!
Unagi (eal) Lunch
Seki City in Gifu Prefecture is known as a town of cutlery, but it is also famous as a town of unagi.
The reason for this is that swordsmiths in the past loved to eat eel dishes as a source of stamina and as a hospitality to their customers.
Eat delicious eels and recharge your energy!
Tajimi Mosaic Tile Museum
In Tajimi, a town in Gifu Prefecture that boasts the largest production of tiles in Japan, there is a museum of mosaic tiles.
At the museum, you can view tile products and materials collected by volunteers over a period of about 20 years, and experience making small items using mosaic tiles.
Make your own original accessory and take it home as your memory!
