The other peaks fall in between, each offering different challenges.
The one-way hiking time for the Guguan Seven Heroes varies by peak. The shortest, Tangmadanshan, takes about 4-6 hours round trip, while Baimaoshang takes about 6-8 hours, and Dongmaoshan takes about 7-9 hours. The Guguan Seven Heroes are not part of Taiwan's 'Little Hundred Peaks'. The Taiwan Little Hundred Peaks refer to 100 selected, relatively easy-to-climb characteristic peaks from various counties and cities in Taiwan. The Guguan Seven Heroes are seven well-known mid-level mountains located in the Guguan area of Taichung. Due to their unique hiking challenges and scenery, they are widely recognized in the Taiwanese mountaineering community as the 'Seven Heroes Challenge'.
Each of the Guguan Seven Heroes possesses unique charms. For instance, Tangmadanshan features the Butterfly Valley Waterfall along its path, with rich biodiversity. The summit of Dongmaoshan offers expansive views, allowing one to overlook the Xueshan Range and the Guguan mountains. Baxianshan is renowned for its towering presence and diverse forest types. Malunshan is known for its ancient forest trails, boasting serene cypress groves and historical traces of early forestry, with different scenery in each season.
After successfully completing the challenge of the Guguan Seven Heroes, you can apply for completion certificates or souvenirs from relevant organizations. For example, the Guguan Visitor Center offers a 'Guguan Seven Heroes Completion Certification' service, which typically requires submitting photos or rubbings from the summit triangulation points as proof. This not only validates personal perseverance but also serves as a unique commemorative achievement for mountaineers, attracting many hikers to complete the challenge incrementally.
