【Travel Tips】
- Language: Japanese, but simple English is also acceptable. There are many Chinese characters in Japanese, so communication can also be achieved through written communication using Chinese characters.
- Currency: The currency unit is Japanese Yen. Banknotes are denominations of 10,000, 5,000, 2,000, and 1,000 yen, and coins are denominations of 500, 100, 50, 10, 50, and 1 yen. Please refer to the Bank of Taiwan website for exchange rates.
- Time difference: Greenwich Mean Time +9 hours, 1 hour ahead of Taiwan
- Voltage: Japan's voltage is 100 volts AC, but the frequency is 50 Hz in eastern Japan and 60 Hz in western areas like Kyoto, Osaka, and Nagoya. Major hotels in major cities have both 100-volt and 200-volt outlets, but these generally only accept two-prong plugs. Ryukyu uses 100-volt two-prong plugs.
- Climate: Japan's climate is temperate maritime, ranging from subarctic in the north to subtropical in the south. The rainy season in most areas runs from mid-June to mid-July, with heavier rainfall than other seasons. Spring and autumn are cooler, so coats and light sweaters are recommended. Summers are hot, so light clothing, such as short-sleeved sportswear, is recommended. Winters are cold, so travelers are advised to bring a light coat, warm jacket, thick sweater, and non-slip and waterproof shoes.

3. Local Phones: Public telephones are found throughout Japan, especially around stations and business districts. They come in red, yellow, pink, and green. 10- and 100-yen coins and phone cards are accepted. Local calls cost 10 yen per minute, and prepaid phone cards are the most convenient method.
4. Phone cards: There are two types: 500 yen and 1000 yen. The 1000 yen phone card can be used to make 105 10 yen calls. Most phone booths have phone card vending machines, and they are also sold in convenience stores and station shops. Beautifully crafted commemorative phone cards are also sold in scenic areas. Although they are more expensive and contain fewer units, they are worth collecting.
- Since October 2014, Japan has included consumables in the list of tax-free items. The relevant explanations are as follows:

2. General products: Clothes, apparel, shoes, bags, jewelry, watches, golf equipment, handicrafts:

3. How to apply for tax exemption:

※ Show your passport (please carry it with you when shopping, as it cannot be processed the next day according to the law)
※ Please fill out the buyer's oath. If general goods and consumables are purchased at the same store, the amount can be combined, but it cannot be combined with goods purchased the next day).
※ Consumables must be placed in designated packaging. Upon leaving the country, you must attach the purchase record to your passport and present it to customs officials for inspection.

Reminders for Personal Travel Documents: On the day of departure, passengers must bring their own necessary documents for travel abroad: passport validity, relevant visa validity, military service stamp, special status, foreign entry and exit, and restricted exit.
