Vietnam Frequently Asked Questions and Useful Information for Travel

Is it safe to visit Vietnam right now?

Yes, Vietnam is generally safe for travelers who take common precautions. The country has a low violent crime rate, but it is susceptible to petty crimes and tourist scams. Traffic can also be a hazard, especially in busy areas. It's advisable to exercise normal precautions, stay aware of your surroundings, and be cautious of overly generous offers. Mosquito-borne illnesses are present, so take appropriate preventive measures.

Is $100 a lot of money in Vietnam?

Yes, $100 is considered a substantial amount for most Vietnamese people and can go a long way for a traveler. While it can cover several days of comfortable travel with local food and transportation, it could also be the cost of a single night at a luxury hotel. For locals, $100 is almost half of the average monthly income, highlighting its value.

Is $1000 enough for 2 weeks in Vietnam?

For a budget traveler, $1000 should be sufficient for a two-week trip to Vietnam, covering accommodation, food, transportation, and activities. The average daily budget for a budget traveler in Vietnam is around $49. Including international airfares, a two-week trip could range from $1700 to $2500 per person.

What is the best month to go to Vietnam?

The best times to visit Vietnam are generally from March to April and October to November. These periods offer pleasant weather with warm temperatures, sunshine, and lower rainfall across much of the country. However, due to Vietnam's long north-to-south orientation, the weather varies significantly by region, so the ideal time may depend on your specific destination.

What are some common tourist scams to watch out for in Vietnam?

Be aware of common tourist scams in Vietnam, such as inflated taxi fares, fake tour offers, and overcharging at markets. Always agree on a price beforehand, especially for taxis and street food. Be skeptical of overly helpful strangers offering unsolicited assistance or deals that seem too good to be true. Research reputable tour operators if you plan to book excursions.
