— What to Expect —
Reach the top of the Stanserhorn, one of the classic viewpoints of the Lake Lucerne region, on a journey that combines a historic railway with a modern cable car. Your ticket covers both parts of the trip between Stans and the summit, which takes nearly 25 minutes in total.
The ride starts at the valley station in Stans (450 m). The funicular, which dates back to 1893, takes about 10 minutes to climb to the intermediate station of Kälti (714 m). From there you switch to the CabriO, a double-decker cable car whose upper deck is open to the sky, for the final climb to the mountain station at 1,850 m.
At the top, the viewing platform looks out over Lake Lucerne, up to 10 lakes and around 100 km of the Alpine range. The summit walk takes about 30 minutes, starts at the mountain restaurant and passes the Adlerfluh viewpoint; rangers on the trail can explain the local nature and name the surrounding mountains. You can also visit the marmot enclosure, and the summit is home to a star-shaped revolving restaurant. From April to November you can hike from the mountain station to the summit. The Stanserhorn is also a popular launch site for paragliding and hang-gliding pilots.
Choose a round-trip ticket, or a one-way ticket up or down if you plan to hike part of the way. A stop at the former Bluematt station is available on request.
