Challenge the Mayan Jungle on Two Wheels: An Adventure Few Dare to Experience
Leave the traditional tourist trails behind and get ready for Guatemala's wildest and most exclusive mountain biking expedition. This full-day sightseeing tour is designed especially for adrenaline junkies, passionate cyclists, and travelers looking for a deep and active connection with nature and history. Your challenge: 23 kilometers of pure mountain biking adventure (one way) through the heart of the Maya Biosphere Reserve, connecting the majestic Tikal National Park with the mystical and remote archaeological site of Uaxactún.
Your Adventure Itinerary
The Start in the Selva Alta: Our expedition begins in Tikal, without entering the archaeological site, from the parking lot. After a session to customize the fit of your professional mountain bike, we'll start the engines. You'll immediately enter a path lined with ancient trees and dense vegetation.
Adrenaline and Wildlife on the Route: Pedaling here is a multi-sensory experience. As you conquer the terrain of dirt, roots and loose stones, keep your eyes peeled. You'll cross the natural habitat of howler monkeys (whose roar will accompany you along the way), spider monkeys, coatis, ocellated turkeys, and an impressive number of tropical birds. With a bit of luck, you'll spot the jaguar. The humid tropical heat will test your endurance, but the shade of the jungle canopy and our strategic hydration stops will keep you at your best.
Arrival at the Enigma of Uaxactún: After 23 kilometers of physical exertion, the jungle opens up to reveal Uaxactún, a local community perfectly integrated with archaeology, a community with more than 110 years of history. Here you'll explore the oldest known Mayan astronomical observatory, a magical place where time seems to stand still.
Local Flavor and Return: You'll regain your energy with an authentic traditional lunch prepared by local hands in the community, a perfect opportunity to learn about their way of life. With your batteries recharged, it's time for the drop-off at Tikal, cementing a physical feat you'll remember for a lifetime.
