A proud accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), the gold standard for animal care and welfare, Zoo Atlanta has a mission to save wildlife and their habitats through conservation, research, education, and engaging experiences. The Zoo is home to hundreds of animals representing more than 200 species from around the world, many of them endangered or critically endangered. Recent transformations include a newly updated African lion complex, opened in April 2025, and the state-of-the-art Rollins Health Center, completed in 2024 and now available for behind-the-scenes tours.
Immerse yourself in the legendary landscape of the African Savanna, home to some of the planet’s most iconic wildlife, including African elephants, giraffes, zebras, ostrich, warthogs, and meerkats. Service Animal Policy: Zoo Atlanta’s Service Animal Admittance Policy meets the requirements defined by law under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Zoo Atlanta’s Service Animal Admittance Policy defines service animals as dogs or miniature horses who are trained to perform a specific task for an individual with a disability. Emotional support animals and other animals are not permitted on Zoo grounds. For the safety of the animals, there are some areas of the Zoo where service animals are not permitted.
