Product Info

【Kumano Hongu Taisha】
Kumano Hongu Taisha is the head shrine of approximately 3,000 Kumano shrines across Japan and the leader of the 'Kumano Sanzan'. It enshrines Ketsumiko-no-Okami, with a history dating back to before the Heian period. In 2004, it was designated as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site alongside the Camino de Santiago in Spain, making it one of only two pilgrimage routes in the world to receive this honor. Unlike other shrines, the main hall retains a low-key, rustic wood tone without vermilion lacquer, and the roof is covered with 30cm-thick cypress bark, creating a solemn atmosphere that embodies Japanese Shinto aesthetics.

【Oyunohara Grand Torii】
After the shrine was relocated due to a massive flood in 1889, a 33-meter-tall vermilion wooden torii gate was erected at the original site, 'Oyunohara'. It is currently the largest wooden torii gate in Japan, standing amidst lush green fields. It is a stunning sight and the most iconic photo spot of the trip.

【Kumano Nachi Taisha】

Kumano Nachi Taisha is one of the Kumano Sanzan, originating from the nature worship of Nachi Falls, and enshrines Kumano Fusumi-no-Okami. In Japanese, 'Fusumi' sounds like 'musubi' (connection), making this a famous shrine for matchmaking, career success, and family harmony, beloved by visitors.

【Seiganto-ji Temple】

Adjacent to Nachi Taisha, Seiganto-ji is a famous Tendai sect temple with a history dating back over 1,300 years to the Nara period. It is also the first temple of the Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage, serving as the starting point for Buddhist pilgrimages in Japan. Standing side-by-side, the coexistence of the shrine and temple is a rare example of the syncretism of Shinto and Buddhism, preserving its original appearance from before the Meiji-era separation of the two.

【Hiro-jinja Shrine】

Hiro-jinja is the inner shrine of Kumano Nachi Taisha. It is unique in that it has no main hall; instead, the Nachi Falls themselves are worshipped as the deity, rather than being a mere natural landscape.

【White Snake Benzaiten Shrine】

Located on Benten Island in Nachi Bay, Wakayama Prefecture, this is one of the most mysterious power spots in the area. The island enshrines the White Snake Benzaiten. In traditional Japanese belief, the white snake is considered the messenger of the goddess Benzaiten, symbolizing wealth, rebirth, and longevity, with the legend saying, 'Those who see the white snake will find great fortune.'
