During one week of the lunar October, it is believed that all of Japan's deities gather at Izumo Taisha. While the rest of Japan calls this month Kannazuki ("Month Without Gods"), Izumo celebrates it as Kamiarizuki ("Month With Gods"). The festival features sacred ceremonies welcoming, honoring, and sending off the deities.
