Hemu Village is nestled in Northern Xinjiang and is often referred to as "China's Most Beautiful Village." Visitors can immerse themselves in the unique ethnic customs of the Tuva people who reside there. The village offers a picturesque setting with traditional wooden cabins, especially captivating during the morning mist and cooking smoke, creating a fairy-tale atmosphere.
Northern Xinjiang is a vast region, and while generally considered safe for tourists, it is advisable to join organized tours for a more seamless and secure travel experience. This is especially true given some remote areas and specific local guidelines. Always adhere to local regulations and remain aware of your surroundings to ensure a pleasant trip.
Some attractions in Northern Xinjiang, such as Tianshan Tianchi, are situated at higher elevations. While most travelers adapt without significant issues, it's recommended to stay well-hydrated, avoid strenuous activities immediately upon arrival, and monitor for symptoms like headache or dizziness. Those with pre-existing medical conditions should consult a doctor before traveling.
The optimal season to witness the diverse natural beauty of Northern Xinjiang, including iconic sites like Kanas Lake and the Duku Highway, is typically during summer and early autumn. From July to August, the Duku Highway offers breathtaking landscapes that can change from "four seasons in one day," while Kanas Lake and the Narati Grassland are at their most vibrant and lush.
Northern Xinjiang is characterized by its stunning alpine lakes like Sayram Lake, expansive grasslands such as Narati, lush forests, and majestic snow-capped mountains, offering a rich tapestry of natural beauty and diverse ethnic cultures. In contrast, Southern Xinjiang is known for its arid desert landscapes, historical Silk Road cities, and a distinct cultural heritage, providing a different kind of travel experience.
Foreign visitors to Northern Xinjiang are typically required to possess a valid visa. While specific regulations may apply to independent travel or access to certain areas, participating in an organized tour simplifies the logistical processes and ensures compliance with local rules, providing smooth access to all major attractions mentioned in the itinerary.
For exploring the expansive landscapes and attractions in Northern Xinjiang, such as World Devil City and traversing the scenic Duku Highway, organized tours predominantly use comfortable business vehicles. This arrangement ensures efficient travel between distant sites and allows travelers to fully appreciate the varied terrain and stunning vistas along the Duku Highway, which is an experience in itself.
In Hemu Village, visitors have the special opportunity to stay in traditional wooden cabins, which are a signature feature of this "Most Beautiful Village in China." This unique accommodation choice allows for a deep cultural immersion, enabling guests to experience the authentic daily life and unique ethnic customs of the Tuva people, surrounded by tranquil, picturesque scenery and the charm of morning mist.
