Explore the two UNESCO World Heritage cities with an archaeologist and expert guide who has led archaeological excavations in Pompeii.
Choose between a shared small-group tour of up to 12 people or a private tour for you and your family/group.
You'll meet the archaeologist outside the archaeological site of Pompeii and enter the city through a tree-lined avenue. From there, you'll be able to see the volcanic rock of the place and listen to the history of the city, the eruption, and the first discovery of Pompeii.
In the morning, your guide will take you to the city of Pompeii, preserved by the volcanic materials from the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD.
You'll visit the theater area, from where you'll see the imposing volcano, and it's from here that, sitting on the steps of the large theater, you'll imagine yourself as a spectator of an ancient comedy or tragedy.
You'll cross the city, discovering the most important places with the archaeologist: the streets, the typical shops, the house (domus) with the original frescoes and mosaics, the baths, the forum (square and beating heart of the administration, religion and economy), and the moving plaster bodies of the victims.
After the Pompeii tour, you'll have time for a lunch break and to head to Herculaneum on the Circumesuviana train (45-minute ride) or a shared taxi that I can book on the day of the tour (15-minute ride).
Whichever way you choose to go to Herculaneum, the guide will provide you with full assistance and explain everything you need to know.
Herculaneum, thanks to its different position from Pompeii, was buried and preserved in a different way, making the city a small treasure trove full of treasures that are very different from Pompeii.
You'll explore the rich residences, see unique decorations (frescoes, marbles, mosaics, jewels), observe the skeletons of the victims and the exceptionally well-preserved wood, and you'll be amazed to discover the second floors of the buildings.
With the help of an archaeologist, you'll immerse yourself in an unforgettable experience discovering the two ancient cities and the culture of the Romans.
The whole experience will be enriched by interesting anecdotes about the daily life and lifestyle of the ancient Romans that will capture the attention of even the youngest.
The tour will end in Herculaneum and is designed and recommended for families with or without children, but also for all photography and archaeology enthusiasts.
