Product Info

-Adachi Museum of Art-

Located in Yasugi City, Shimane Prefecture, the Adachi Museum of Art was founded by entrepreneur Adachi Zenko. Based on the belief that 'the garden is a painting,' he transformed the vast 50,000-tsubo grounds into a Japanese garden that blends natural and artificial beauty. The main garden is a dry landscape garden that uses the natural mountains as borrowed scenery, complemented by a moss garden woven with cedar moss and red pines, a pond garden where koi swim, and a white sand and pine garden inspired by the famous paintings of Yokoyama Taikan, all offering distinct scenery throughout the changing seasons.

The museum houses over 2,000 works by modern Japanese masters such as Yokoyama Taikan, Takeuchi Seiho, Kawai Gyokudo, and Uemura Shoen, along with ceramics and calligraphy by Kitaoji Rosanjin, as well as modern Japanese paintings and lacquerware, which are displayed on a rotating basis in the main wing, new wing, and Rosanjin wing. The harmonious coexistence of the gardens and artworks has led the Adachi Museum of Art to be ranked number one in Japan by a specialized American magazine and awarded the highest three-star rating by the French travel guide.
