Product Info

Kihoku-cho is the only town in Japan with the character for 'demon' (oni) in its name. True to its name, this local Japanese mountain village area is steeped in demon legends. A symbolic spot in this region is the 'Former Site of Tomyo-ji Temple,' a national historic site. The entire mountain area is a sacred place for mountain worship, and it is the site of a mountain temple that burned down about 400 years ago. In the past, monks practiced here day and night. Tracing a part of these monks' ascetic practices is the main focus of this product. Based at the history exchange center at the foot of the mountain, you will first gain knowledge about the history and culture of this area. Afterward, you will change into monk's robes and prepare for the hike. Starting early in the morning, you will trek for about 30 minutes from the exchange center and meditate at the site of the main hall, which was once the center of Tomyo-ji Temple. From the main hall site at an altitude of about 340m, you can see a mystical sea of clouds depending on the weather. The sea of clouds filling the valley is breathtaking. A perfect location awaits to harmonize both your mind and body. After descending the mountain, you will further harmonize your mind through calligraphy and tea, recharging your energy for your next journey. The experience lasts about 3 hours in total.
 
The day before, you will stay at 'Yama-Ajisai,' a Japanese house that symbolizes the local Japanese lifestyle. You can experience the village life hosted by a local couple. The friendly couple, 'Tatsuya' and 'Nanae,' were born and raised in Kihoku-cho. They live in harmony with the local nature, farming for a living. At 'Yama-Ajisai,' you can enjoy various experiences such as harvesting vegetables in the field, making 'konjac,' a healthy Japanese food, and baking pizza with plenty of local vegetables. The wholesome, homemade dinner dishes will revitalize you from within. Worth special mention is the interaction with the couple, 'Tatsuya' and 'Nanae.' They always warm the hearts of visitors with their smiles. There is no doubt that the two will become your 'Japanese mom and dad' during your stay.

Reminders

  • In the event of bad weather, the trek to Tomyoji Temple on Mt. Nara on the second day may be cancelled for safety reasons. In such cases, a decision on whether to proceed will be made by 5:00 PM the day before at the latest, and a refund of 10,000 yen will be given in the event of cancellation.

Cancellation Policy

  • Cancellations 21 day(s) (inclusive) before the selected date are allowed. Unused orders can be canceled for free
  • For cancellations made 2 to 20 days prior to selected date, a cancellation fee of 20% will apply
  • For cancellations made 1 to 1 days prior to selected date, a cancellation fee of 50% will apply
  • Cancellation is not allowed between 0–0 days from the selected date. Orders cannot be canceled or modified, and refunds will not be granted.
NOTE
  • Due to time zone differences, the confirmed cancellation date is based on the supplier’s local time. Please allow 2–5 business days to process your cancellation request, after which the cancellation fee will be charged according to the product’s cancellation policy. Once your refund request is confirmed, KKday will initiate the refund to your original payment method within 15 days. The actual refund timing depends on your card-issuing bank’s policy.
