Product Info
Kairi is a renovated traditional folk house nestled in the inland landscape of Awaji Island, where the original scenery of yesteryear still remains.
Enjoy dishes meticulously prepared one by one, featuring local ingredients, tableware, and a space carefully curated by the owner, all while the scenery helps you relax your mind.
The owner is dedicated to using seasonal ingredients from Awaji Island! Whenever possible, they use produce grown by locals and harvested in the area. They take time and effort to delicately plate each dish, featuring crops grown with love and seafood harvested through great hardship and effort. If ingredients are unavailable, the owner even goes out to pick wild vegetables or make tea themselves. This commitment extends beyond the ingredients to the tableware, forks, knives, chopsticks, the temperature of the served food, and the atmosphere of the space. Furthermore, Kairi has no fixed menu; it is decided based on the local ingredients available at the time, and a handwritten menu is posted at the entrance of Kairi every day.
Looking around from the entrance, you can see the original scenery of the past. Spend a relaxing time in a space where you can feel the beauty of ancient Japan, such as the irori (sunken hearth), the engawa (veranda), the nostalgic yet beautiful patterned glass windows, and the ranma (transom) above the rooms that serves as a partition while allowing wind and light to pass through, all within a folk house that feels one with the landscape.

【Gossa Kaito Ruins】
A 4-minute drive from the dining location takes you to ruins located on a hill 200 meters above sea level and 3 km from the sea, where you can overlook the ocean, dating back to the late Yayoi period when maritime traffic was mainstream. While the Yayoi period often brings to mind pastoral images of rice cultivation, these ruins were actually a 'blacksmith village' where ironware was made; not a single farming tool was found, but arrowheads and axes made on the Korean Peninsula were unearthed. Currently, the blacksmith workshop building has been restored.
【Ikuta District Rice Terraces】
A 5-minute drive from the dining location takes you to the rice terraces of the Ikuta district, a quintessential Japanese landscape. The Ikuta district consists of three small hamlets in the mountains. Amidst aging and depopulation, the momentum for regional revitalization grew, leading to the formation of the 'Ikuta Regional Revitalization Council.' This has led to the preservation of the magnificent rice terraces, the sale of local buckwheat, the creation of a 'soba cafe' utilizing a former nursery school, and the restoration of a water mill. The scenery at sunset during the rice planting season when the fields are filled with water is enchanting.
