Product Info

The Chinese revolutionary Sun Yat-sen had a very deep connection with Kobe, which was a vital shipping hub at the time and home to many overseas Chinese; Sun Yat-sen visited Kobe 18 times.

In November 1895, Sun Yat-sen first set foot in Japan in Kobe, and he also departed from Japan for the last time from Kobe. Because of this, he left many footprints in Kobe, including his famous 'Great Asianism' lecture.

The Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall (Ijo-kaku) honors Sun Yat-sen's activities and introduces his relationships with the Japanese people and overseas Chinese who supported him through exhibits such as photo panels and his original calligraphy.
Furthermore, the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall (Ijo-kaku) is an octagonal, three-story pavilion that was relocated and restored from a villa built in the early 20th century by Wu Jintang, a Chinese businessman in Kobe.

It is one of the oldest existing wooden-framed concrete block buildings in Japan and is designated as a National Important Cultural Property. Inside the building, the British tiles and gold-embossed wallpaper (kinkarakami) revived during the restoration work preserve the atmosphere of the past.

The Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall (Ijo-kaku) is located right next to the magnificent Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, allowing visitors to experience a scenic location with views such as Awaji Island lying directly before them.
Please note that the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall (Ijo-kaku) has Chinese-speaking staff stationed at the reception and other areas.
