Product Info

- Attraction Introduction -

  • Choshi Gorge

Choshi Gorge is a valley formed by a volcanic eruption 13 million years ago, where you can see the largest waterfall on Shodoshima, standing 21 meters high. Because the shape resembles sake pouring from the mouth of a sake bottle (choshi), it was named Choshi Waterfall, which later gave the gorge its name. Initially, there were many wild monkeys in Choshi Gorge, but during the Showa era, artificial feeding began for research purposes, and the experiment was successful within just three months. At that time, there were about 130 monkeys, but now as many as 500 monkeys live in this area. In addition, sweet potatoes produced in Shodoshima have been used as food for the monkeys to this day.

  • Kankakei Gorge

Kankakei Gorge on Shodoshima, Kagawa Prefecture, is famous for its 'Twelve Views of the Front and Eight Views of the Back.' This refers to the two hiking trails leading from the foot of the mountain to the observation deck near the ropeway 'Summit Station' (612 meters above sea level). The trail on the west side is called the 'Front Trail,' and the one on the east side is called the 'Back Trail.' Along these two paths, you can enjoy twelve and eight stunning scenic spots, respectively.

  • Twenty-Four Eyes Movie Village

Stepping inside, you are greeted by the scenery of the early Showa period. The classic film 'Twenty-Four Eyes' was set on Shodoshima. The outdoor set built for the filming has been preserved in its original state and is open to the public. The area features private houses, a wooden schoolhouse, and village paths, faithfully recreating the atmosphere of the early Showa era, making you feel as if you have traveled back in time and evoking a sense of nostalgia.

  • Shodoshima Daikannon

Location: Located in Tonosho Town, Shozu District, Kagawa Prefecture.

Features: A giant Kannon statue approximately 50 meters tall, known as the 'most beautiful Kannon statue in the world,' and one of the landmarks of Shodoshima.

From the observation deck, you can overlook the beautiful scenery of Shodoshima and the Seto Inland Sea. The interior also houses and displays numerous Buddha statues and Buddhist artworks, possessing both religious and cultural value.
