【Magritte – Australia’s first retrospective of the celebrated surrealist】

【Cao Fei: My City is Yours】

Discover Cao Fei’s largest exhibition ever in Australia at the Art Gallery of New South Wales from 30 November 2024 to 13 April 2025. Spanning over two decades of her career, this retrospective showcases Cao Fei’s exploration of China’s rapid urbanisation and digital revolutions through acclaimed films, photography, and large-scale installations.

The exhibition, My City is Yours, invites you into a world where reality meets virtuality. Step through a recreated 1960s Beijing cinema foyer, and exit via a tribute to a Sydney yum cha restaurant. Designed by Cao Fei and Beau Architects of Hong Kong, the space blends neon lights, street dance, and pop music, creating a dynamic cityscape where cosplayers and hip-hop dancers roam the streets, and robots work alongside humans.

This immersive experience highlights the fusion of gaming, VR, and metaverse technologies, presenting a city constantly in flux. It offers a profound reflection on urban transformation, play, and identity.

Supported by Destination NSW, the exhibition is part of the Sydney International Art Series, alongside Magritte and Julie Mehretu, bringing world-class art exclusively to Sydney.
