Product Info

-What you can expect-
Make a Splash on the SEAL ("Sea and Land Adventure Tour") and experience San Diego as it was meant to be experienced...by land and by sea. First, you'll travel along the beautiful Big Bay by land and learn about the early fishing industry. You'll move past the San Diego International Airport before splashing down into San Diego Bay off Shelter Island, beginning your water-tour segment of the journey.

As the SEAL travels through the north end of the Big Bay, keep your eyes open for a California Brown Pelican, a majestic Blue Heron, or maybe a Sea Lion! You'll learn about the important role the military plays in San Diego, while taking in views of Point Loma, Naval Air Station North Island, the Point Loma Submarine Base, the Scripps Institution of Oceanography and the Navy's marine mammal training center.

The San Diego SEAL tour fleet consists of 8 amphibious vehicles manufactured specifically for the tourism industry. These vessels are U.S. Coast Guard approved and meet all required regulations for Department of Transportation passenger vessels. Every effort has been made to make these vehicles the strongest and safest possible. While you may see a seal on the tour, you most likely will see sea lions.

Once the amphibious vehicle transitions into the water, you'll cruise through San Diego Bay, offering panoramic views of the city skyline, Coronado Bridge, naval ships, and possibly distant views of marine life in their natural habitat. This provides a comprehensive overview from both urban and aquatic vantage points.

2. What type of experience does the San Diego SEAL Tour offer, combining land and sea exploration?

The San Diego SEAL Tour provides an exciting, entertaining adventure that seamlessly transitions from land to sea. It's an amphibious journey, starting as a bus on city streets, then transforming into a boat navigating San Diego Bay. Guests experience the thrill of the splashdown into the water. This unique format allows for sightseeing of major city attractions from an uncommon perspective, followed by a scenic marine cruise, narrated by a knowledgeable guide, highlighting San Diego's history and points of interest.

3. How long is the San Diego SEAL Tour, and what areas does it cover?

The San Diego SEAL Tour typically lasts approximately 90 minutes from start to finish. The tour begins on land, exploring iconic downtown San Diego neighborhoods, including the Seaport Village area and parts of the historic Gaslamp Quarter. It then transitions into the San Diego Bay, cruising past significant naval vessels, the Coronado Bridge, and offering picturesque views of the city's waterfront, providing a comprehensive overview of both the city's landside charm and its maritime beauty.

4. Where does the San Diego SEAL Tour depart from, and how should guests plan to arrive?

The San Diego SEAL Tour typically departs from Seaport Village, a vibrant waterfront shopping and dining complex in downtown San Diego. Guests should plan to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to their scheduled departure time for check-in. Walking or ride-sharing services are also convenient options for reaching the departure point.

5. What practical tips should I consider before taking the San Diego SEAL Tour?

For a comfortable San Diego SEAL Tour experience, consider a few practical tips. Dress in layers, as bay breezes can make it cooler on the water, even on warm days. Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat are recommended, especially for daytime tours. Bring a camera to capture the unique sights. It's advisable to use the restroom before boarding. Arriving early allows for ample time to check in and find a good seat for optimal viewing.

6. What kind of marine life, including seals, might be spotted on the San Diego SEAL Tour?

While the San Diego SEAL Tour focuses on sightseeing the city from land and bay, opportunities to spot marine life exist. In San Diego Bay, it's possible to see various seabirds, occasional dolphins, and sea lions basking on buoys or navigating the waters. While specific seal sightings are not the primary focus or guarantee, the tour's presence in the bay means guests have a chance to observe elements of the local marine ecosystem, including the chance to see seals or sea lions from a distance.

7. Is there a specific time of year when seal sightings are more common on the San Diego SEAL Tour?

Seal and sea lion sightings in San Diego Bay can occur year-round. However, their presence is largely dependent on natural migration patterns, feeding habits, and local conditions, rather than a specific season. While the San Diego SEAL Tour primarily focuses on the city's historical and scenic landmarks, guests may have opportunities to spot these marine mammals at any time. There isn't a guaranteed "best" time of year, as sightings are always subject to environmental factors.

8. Is the San Diego SEAL Tour suitable for all ages, including young children and seniors?
