Kuching

Often referred to as the "City of Cats," Kuching is a mix of old and new, offering visitors a rich tapestry of colonial architecture, local markets, and contemporary cafes and restaurants.

Malay is the official language, but English is widely spoken. Local indigenous languages like Iban, Bidayuh, and others are also spoken.

Kuching is also known as the 'Cat City'. The most popular legend is that when British explorers first arrived in this land in the 19th century, their Malay guide thought the explorer was pointing to a cat instead of the riverside town, thus mistakenly replying 'kucing' (the Malay word for cat).

Kuching offers a variety of attractions including the iconic Kuching Waterfront, the Sarawak Cultural Village showcasing indigenous heritage, the Semenggoh Wildlife Centre for orangutan encounters, and the vibrant Main Bazaar for local crafts and souvenirs.
