The NEX train goes directly to Shinjuku without requiring transfers. If your destination is on the JR line, you can transfer directly to the JR line without leaving the station and the ride is free. It's not as crowded as the Skyliner.
The driver was very nice; he knew where we were looking for, proactively asked us questions, and gave us suggestions. However, it would have been even better if passengers could choose their own seats.
The solemn shrine, the magnificent fields of bougainvillea, and the spectacular light show made the day trip well worth the price. Our guide, LEO, provided professional commentary, and the itinerary was very well-planned. Although the driving distance was a bit long, it offered breathtaking views and was truly wonderful.
