Mount Yari

Mount Yari, also known as Yari-ga-take, is a prominent peak within Japan's southern Hida Mountains (Northern Alps). It stands at 3,180 meters (10,433 ft) and straddles the border between Ōmachi and Matsumoto in Nagano Prefecture and Takayama in Gifu Prefecture.

The ascent from the Yari-gatake-sanso mountain hut to the summit of Mount Yari is considered difficult. However, sturdy chains and ladders are installed at crucial points along the route to enhance safety, making it accessible for determined hikers, including families with children.

The official climbing season for the Japan Alps, including Mount Yari, typically runs from late May through the end of September. During this period, most mountain huts are open, with some larger ones offering slightly extended operational dates. Snowfall usually begins in October and can linger on higher trails until mid-May.
