In the Bible, Thessalonica is an important ancient city in Macedonia, modern-day Greece. It's noted for the missionary journeys of the Apostle Paul and the letters he wrote to the church there. Situated on the Thermaic Gulf, it was a significant Roman port and a key stop on the Via Egnatia. The New Testament references Thessalonica in the book of Acts and in Paul's two letters to the church.
