The autumn foliage season at Tenryu-ji Temple typically falls from mid-November to early December. For a half-day visit, it is best to go shortly after the temple opens in the morning. At this time, there are fewer crowds, and the light is soft, allowing you to better appreciate the beauty of the sunlight falling on the autumn leaves and the Sogenchi Garden, making for excellent photos. If you choose to visit in the late afternoon, you can experience the fiery reds under the sunset glow, enjoying a different serene atmosphere, but be sure to note the temple's closing time.
